A Framework for Developing Environmental Justice Indicators

Environmental justice (EJ) is a broad discipline that attempts to understand and redress unfair exposure unhealthy environmental conditions. EJ often made measurable with indicators, however the capabilities limitations of indicators can be difficult for policy makers understand. Using an exploratory review literature, this paper performs research translation role by clarifying key terms used describe providing conceptual frameworks developing locally valid government community. Issues such as position in context social determinants health, indicator development, definitions are explored. The literature highlighted potential measuring extent impact issues on human health environment. We found invariably (1) composed two or more measures, (2) developed iteratively, consultation those affected. To aid governments communities, we present both top-down bottom-up framework guiding combination measures from four different core elements; environment, demography, epidemiology procedures. A list evidence-based example also provided. It anticipated will provide guidance efficiently relevant indicators.
